I have a 2006 GT500 that was built by Ford as a pre-production vehicle and used in Detroit and NY auto shows. The dash includes the 2007 instrument panel but was originally built as a standard GT top (plastic/vinyl) and covered with leather - including the french seams. Just prior to delivery it was pulled off due to shrinkage and lost. I'm looking for a replacement but do not want to pull the entire dash (or any of it) to accomplish this. I can pull the windshield to allow more direct access for an installer. All installers I have talked to want me to remove the dash and deliver it to them - I'm not interested in this. Where can I get a replacement? Who can install it?
Do you have documentation from Ford on the car's history? When you say delivery what do you mean? Delivery to who? When? I only ask because in all my years of dealing with Ford with prototypes, for show, mock-ups, and durability cars, they have always been destroyed or sold inoperable, VIN stripped and without a title. There are tons of legal reasons for this so if you do have an actual working prototype that was able to be driven and registered for use it would be the first I have ever heard of out in the wild. Does the car have the 5.4L Supercharged V8 or the 4.2 NA engine? Do you have pictures? This is really a BIG deal if true. Here's an article that explains what I'm talking about when it comes to the sale of prototypes: http://www.forbes.com/2002/06/10/0610feat.html
Jeff-is-here-too hit the nail on the head here. Maybe this 2006 is another "dealer created" car. If not, it would be one-off for sure.
I believe I remember the car. All the Shelby stuff, like rims, hood, front end, stripes, seats and brembo brakes with standard 06 Mustang GT drivetrain. Very unique car with a definite place in Ford's and Shelby's history. As for the dash, I am sure it was a one off show piece never intended to last through the riggers of actual outside use.(uv light and extreme heat) If you get it repaired take lots of pictures before and after to document any mods done to this car.
